Laya Mendizabal is a film student and multi-disciplinary artist dedicated to further developing her craft as a cinematographer and writer. Her most recent work as a camera operator was on the heartwarming drama "I Don't Like Gardening" and the captivating documentary about a Canadian rock band, The Kings, titled "This Beat Goes On". Throughout the years, Laya has created three short films—"No Me Desampares (Do Not Forsake Me)", "Full Circle", and "Buzzcut"—and co-wrote and performed a theatrical ensemble production at the SummerWorks Festival. She is passionate about creating and working on projects that center the stories of equity-deserving communities; bridging accessibility gaps by sharing her skills, knowledge, and live-experience; and, ultimately, expanding the scope of diversity in the film industry.
